How we test
Every guide on this site answers one question, and every factual line in it carries a tag that says where it came from.
The tags
- Tested: we played the file, pressed the buttons or changed the setting ourselves, on the device and tvOS version printed at the top of the page.
- Apple doc: the claim comes from Apple's own documentation or support articles, linked from the tag.
- Our app: how one of our own apps behaves, read from its source code. We use this only to describe our own app, never as a measurement of Apple TV itself.
- Source: a public record we checked on the date shown, such as an App Store listing or a project's official download page, linked from the tag.
If a claim has none of these, it is not on the page. When something could not be verified we say so, or leave it out.
Dates and versions
tvOS updates change menus and behaviour. Each guide shows the tvOS version and the date it was last checked. Where an older device test did not record the tvOS version, the page says so instead of guessing. When a new tvOS release changes something, we re-test and update the date.
Our own apps
We also make a handful of Apple TV apps. Some guides end with a link to one of them, when it genuinely solves the problem on that page. Those links never change what a guide says, and we mention where other apps or the built-in options do the job.
Corrections
Found something that behaves differently on your setup? Tell us at [email protected] with your Apple TV model, tvOS version and the rest of the chain (TV, receiver, soundbar). We re-test and credit the correction.
